Everyone knows there’s a lack of Planners in the UK. By most estimations the profession has reduced by 15% in the past 10 years and growing need is causing recruitment challenges for most Local Authorities.
• RECRUITING IN A COMPETITIVE SECTOR
• PREVIOUSLY BEEN OUT TO MARKET
• TARGETED SEARCH TO REACH PASSIVE MARKET
Hillingdon Council had been to market twice previously, with two candidates getting to offer stage but turning the role down for differing reasons. The local market had already been exhausted with two rounds of advertising and the Council were keen to attract a permanent member of staff. TMP were tasked to look for people who were inactive in the market but could be open to a move for the right role.
TMP agreed to specifcally target the passive market, working to attract people who would be unlikely to have seen or responded to the previous advertisements. We used professional networking sites, Google Searches, Local Authority websites, Royal Town Planning Institute and National Association for Planning Enforcement network searches. We looked for qualifed (or qualifed by experience) planning professionals with strong enforcement management experience who had managed teams.
A qualified and experienced planning professional, sourced and engaged by TMP, was hired by Hillingdon Borough Council.
